Applications now being accepted for the 2012-13 year

New Investigators

Kloshe Tillicum offers annual an annual post-doctorate award and teaching releases for new faculty to conduct research.  The Aboriginal Health Research awards are intended to support and increase the number of health professionals with Aboriginal health research skills and experience. Aboriginal applicants are strongly urged to apply.


New Investigators are researchers who:

  • Are exceptional scholars who are near completion or recently completed a PhD study of high calibre, involving Aboriginal health research;
  • Have a proven record of cultural involvement;
  • Are interested in teaching and mentoring other graduate students in Aboriginal health research;
  • Hold an appointment or association with a post-secondary institution in British Columbia (BC) or the Yukon Territory (YT);
  • Are conducting Aboriginal health research with a potential benefit of improving the  health of Aboriginal peoples in BC or YT;
  • Can demonstrate partnership with an aboriginal community or agency which the applicant will collaborate with, mentor, build capacity, and/or participate in knowledge translation;
  • Have five years or less post-PhD cumulative research experience; and
  • Are not registered for a higher degree during the tenure of the award.

 Eligibility

  • Applicants must be based in British Columbia (BC), the Yukon or Northwest Territories (NWT) in any of the following ways: be enrolled in a post-secondary institution; have a supervisor affiliated with Kloshe Tillicum; or be associated with a faculty in a post-secondary institution.
  • The applicant’s intended research must be related to Aboriginal health and be of benefit to Aboriginal peoples in BC, Yukon or NWT.
  • Applicants must be pursuing or considering a career in Aboriginal Health Research.

Conditions of Kloshe Tillicum Awards

  • Recipients agree to present research in at least one of Kloshe Tillicum’s research gatherings within 2 years of completion of the grant.
  • Recipients agree to have their names, titles of their research and their findings available on Kloshe Tillicum public materials including but not limited to the website, newsletters, published materials, gatherings, etc.
  • Recipients agree, where appropriate, to link with an aboriginal community or agency which the applicant will collaborate with, mentor a community researcher, or present findings outlined in their final report.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship

  • $37,000 (1 available)
  • 3 years or less cumulative post-PhD research experience

Teaching Release

  • $7,000 (2 available)
  • 5 years or less cumulative post-PhD research experience
